Sangria Wine!

Jeff’s Corner 8-15-18 “When friends come for Saturday night,It’s nice to make up some Sangria wine,It’s organic and it comes from the vine,It’s also legal and it gets you so high.” Great words, Jerry Jeff! It’s summer, it’s humid, and it’s hot. Some ice-cold Sangria, some burgers on the grill, and some good friends sound pretty darn good right about now.

New “Editor” & Harvest Update

Jeff’s Corner 7-20-18 Howdy, Howdy, and a Big Hola to All A month or so ago, those of you that are kind enough to read Jeff’s Corner on a regular basis might have noticed a change in format. I have a new “editor”; the person that posts these stories and makes certain I don’t step out of bounds with too much weirdness. This person would be the delightful and incredibly talented Chelsea Scott, whose photo is the lead for this story. Chelsea has breathed a bit of fresh air into my blog, and we have some interesting and creative ideas moving forward. After blogging in a bog for a while, I’m excited again.

Who is Jeff Binney?

Recently, we’ve had an overwhelming outcry from the masses wanting to know: Who is this Jeff Binney guy? Is he qualified to educate us on all this wine stuff? Where is he from? Is he real or a fictional character Grape Creek has made up? Well folks, I’m here to tell you Jeff is a living, breathing entity. If you’re lucky enough to end up at his bar for a tasting, soak it in and ask the man a question or two, he loves discussing wine and all things Grape Creek! Also, Jeff wanted me to remind you that it’s time to renew your membership to the Jeff’s Corner Fan Club. And, if you’re not a member, there is no better time to sign up. It’s simple, just get your hands on as much cash as possible and send it to Jeff Binney, care of Grape Creek Vineyards, attention Chelsea.

“Slightly Famous” Peach Daiquiri

Jeff’s Corner 6-28-18 A few days ago, I got an email from my dear friend and co-worker Bill Burns asking if I would share my slightly famous peach daiquiri recipe. The answer, of course, was yes, and then I realized I should probably share it with all of you as well. After all, it is peak peach season in Fredericksburg, and this year we have had a bumper crop.

Thank You for Your Service (revisit)

This Blog is always worth re-visiting. Remembering all who have sacrificed for us to have the life we lead today. Jeff’s Corner Three days ago last Sunday, while working my last shift in the now old Main Street location, an older gentleman walked up the two steps with a little help from a cane and a metal right leg from the knee down.

SFCWC and Employee Event

Jeff’s Corner 1-25-18 Howdy, Howdy, and one more BIG Howdy! There’s been lots going on for January, so I thought we could take some time for a couple updates.  Last week, Kath and I returned from Sonoma where I was once again privileged to judge the San Francisco Chronicle Wine…

San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Jeff’s Corner 1-5-18 Hey Hey Hey Next week is the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and once again I’ve been honored to be invited as a judge.  What a hoot!  The SFCWC is the largest (nearly 7000 entries from 35 states), and perhaps the most prestigious wine competition in the…

Happy New Year and Vineyard Update

Jeff’s Corner 12-28-17 Happy Happy Healthy Healthy New Year, Everyone! Another spin around the sun, with a new orbit just begun.  Sometimes lately, however, I feel the earth is speeding up while I am slowing down.  Ah, well… Anyway, onward through the vines with a special treat from our Vineyard…

The History of Thanksgiving

Jeff’s Corner 11-16-17 Well, once again it is time for me to say RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, TURKEYS!!!  Thanksgiving (perhaps our most gluttonous of holidays, and my personal favorite), is born from starvation. As we know, legend and history dance a fine waltz; and the story (or reality) of the…

San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Jeff’s Corner 9-28-17 Hey, Hey, Hey, today is Ego Day Once again, I’m proud to mention that I’ve been invited to judge the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in January.  This is my third consecutive year, and it’s a gargantuan honor to again be included in this storied competition with…

GCV Family

Jeff’s Corner 8-30-17 Hello! Many times you have heard me extol the virtues of the GCV staff and our ability to work together in pressure-packed situations. In every sense of the phrase, as timeworn as it sometimes sounds, our staff is a family. We argue a bunch, but our commitment…

Cabernet Grill Charbroiled Quail

Bon Jour, Buenes Tardes, and Good Afternoon A few weeks ago, in Jeff’s Corner (5-17-17), Chef Ross Burtwell from Cabernet grill was kind enough to share an elegant recipe for an appetizer of Jumbo Lump Crab with Avocado and Coconut Curry Lime Broth.  At the time, I teased you about…
