Veraison Time Again

Jeff’s Corner 6-22-17 Greetings Once Again, I first posted this story last year in early July.  I like it because it reinforces the cyclical nature of our lives in rhythm with the vines, and I really like the photo simply because it’s really pretty. Veraison began last week in the…

Jeff’s Corner 6-15-17 Howdy all y’all out there, Last Saturday afternoon, we sadly said goodbye to our delightful 2015 Rose of Sangiovese, and gladly said hello to our new 2016 Rose of Malbec.  As I like to say, “it’s a real beauty”.  Our guests love it, and sales are brisk. …

Cabernet Grill Charbroiled Quail

Bon Jour, Buenes Tardes, and Good Afternoon A few weeks ago, in Jeff’s Corner (5-17-17), Chef Ross Burtwell from Cabernet grill was kind enough to share an elegant recipe for an appetizer of Jumbo Lump Crab with Avocado and Coconut Curry Lime Broth.  At the time, I teased you about…

Memorial Day Remembrance

Jeff’s Corner 5-24 17 Hello, and here we go I wrote this two years ago in Jeff’s Corner, and said at the time I would post it every Memorial Day Weekend. Sometimes I write stuff, and sometimes it writes itself, like this. I can only imagine his memories. “Jeff’s Corner…

Cabernet Grill Jumbo Lump Crab

Our 25th Anniversary with Cabernet Trois

Jeff’s Corner 5-11-17 Hello and Hello Years ago, Kathy and I were enjoying one of many great conversations we had with Ned Simes, the founder of Grape Creek. Ned was a visionary and a pioneer in the diaper years of the Texas wine industry. (One of my favorite writers said…

Aye Caramba

Hola Campers Today begins the 64th year towards my rainbow, and as we all know we can have some pretty strange thoughts on our birthdays. Last year, I was stricken by insight when I realized that I had never been quite so old on a b’day. Kath quickly pointed out…

The Results are In!

Jeff’s Corner 3-22-17 “The croaking raven doth bellow for revenge.” Hamlet (3.2.250) And how sweet that revenge was last Saturday night at our Tank Tasting extravaganza, when my beloved 2015 Rose of Sangiovese surged past the upstart 2016 Rose of Malbec just before the polls closed. Here’s how the election…

The Great Rose-Off

Jeff’s Corner 3-16-17 It’s almost time! The most anticipated slugfest in wine history since the legendary “Judgement of Paris” in 1976 is upon us. Back then, upstart Napa Valley Cabs and Chards kicked the crap out of centuries’ long dominance by the most elite French Bordeaux and Burgundy wines. As…
