Wowser! Everyone is abuzz, Owners Club members and staff alike, about the inaugural release of the Heath Vineyards wines last Sunday, November 6. Membership in the Owners Club is exclusive to our traditional members, and very limited with only a few spots still available. There will be subsequent vintages of…

Yeast

Hello, Hello, and Howdy, A few days ago, on one of my tours, I was talking about fermentation and a guest asked me for some detailed info about yeast. So, I thought I could share a little more detailed info with all of you as well. Yeast, a single-cell fungi,…

Decanting

Jeff’s Corner Bon Jour, Hola, and Howdy! Today we are going to continue from last week and talk about decanting a wine. First, however, I want to thank everyone for all the likes, comments, and support regarding last Mondays post mentioning that I had been invited again to judge the…

Saturdays are Different

Saturdays are Different – October 12, 2016 Grape Creek recently made some changes to our approach on Saturdays and busy Holiday Weekends (learn more about Saturdays). Our owner, Brian Heath, provides some background in this article. We love Grape Creek and the wine business! Of course, it’s hard…

Aeration

Jeff’s Corner  Last Saturday, my dear friend Bill Burns and I were laughing about our suggested parameters regarding how long to let a wine “breathe”. It is, however, a serious question that comes up often from our guests. “Breathing” is wine lingo for aeration, which is the process of allowing…

Davis Mountains AVA

Jeff’s Corner  Greetings from mile high Fort Davis in far west Texas. As you read this, Kathy and I are on vaca and probably staring at the Davis Mountains from the porch on the second story of the historic Limpia Hotel. Most likely, we are drinking some Grape Creek wine…

2015 Grand Rouge

Jeff’s Corner Howdy Doody, everyone! My pal and coworker, Gordon, pretty much nailed it years ago when he described our Grande Rouge as “The preferred wine of beer drinkers everywhere.” Indeed, its popularity is undeniable (often our best selling wine), and it fills a very important niche in our portfolio.

A Big Thanks from Jeff

Jeff’s Corner Hello, Hello, Hello, and Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Wow, everyone! Today is right around the sixth anniversary of Jeff’s Corner (the exact date is lost in the mists of time), and I can’t think of a better moment to pop my head out of the barrel…

’07 Cabernet Trois Review

Jeff’s Corner Last week, I received an inquiry from a Wine Club member in Austin regarding the age worthiness of some of our Black Label red wines he had collected over the years. I gave him conservative parameters. I was conservative at the end of my answer as well: “Keep…

Estate Montepulciano

Jeff’s Corner Howdy, Howdy, and one more Howdy! More than once you’ve heard me write about our block of Montepulciano vines that are beside our Wine Club Patio, and more than once I’ve talked about how the life cycle of the vines becomes one with the rhythm of the seasons…

2014 Riesling

Jeff’s Corner To me, Riesling is the most delightful of all white grapes, simply because it can please us in so many ways. It can be bone dry or really sweet, but either way it dazzles us with balance. If I were a bee making perfume from honey, Riesling would…

It’s All About the Flavor

Jeff’s Corner Well, here I am behind the eye ball again after some more exciting surgery. My left eye is filled with a gas balloon, and I am indeed feeling a bit light-headed. So, we’ll check out our new Riesling next week, and in the interim here’s a story about…
